Board of Trustees

The system is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the Minnesota governor and confirmed by the Minnesota Senate (Minnesota Statutes Section 136F.02 and 136F.06).

System Chancellor

The Board of Trustees appoints the chancellor as chief administrator and delegates the position's powers and duties. Within Minnesota law and Minnesota Management and Budget regulations, Minnesota State system policies and procedures ensure system institutions operate with integrity in financial, academic, human resource, and auxiliary activities (Minnesota Statutes Section 136F.07).

College and university presidents

Minnesota State college and  university presidents are appointed by the board upon recommendation of the chancellor to serve as executive officers. Presidents report to the system chancellor (Minnesota State Board Policy 4.2 Appointment of Presidents).

President’s Advisory Councils

At the institutional level, M State uses president’s advisory councils to stay connected to regional leaders and needs. The councils provide direct and meaningful input on strategies and opportunities for collaboration to help build strong, educated, inclusive and vibrant communities. The councils meet biannually and include more than 75 representatives from business and industry, community agencies, and secondary and postsecondary education. Each M State campus community has representation on the councils.
